All my kids talk about getting every year for Christmas is video games if they don’t go downstairs and find Gears of War 2 under our new flocked christmas tree I do not know how they will survive. It makes me a little nuts since I do all I can to get my kids outdoors. I would much rather give them a pair of new skates or golf clubs then some mind numbing thing that will enchant them in front of the television. Alas, I suppose boys will be boys. Fighting with them is just too much work.

After saying that I guess I should get to the point that I’ve developed a few ways to control their television addiction. With a few techniques I try to get them outside more. The first way I try to accomplish my goal is by limiting time that can be spent in front of them television to only one hour per day. I find placing a limit is important because then they know that anything above that is a privilege. To be more fair I’ve allowed them some methods of earning more television time. That leads me to talk about trick number two. They can get more television time by either doing chores or spending time outside. I like the chores option because it is nice for me to have a few less things to do, and the reward for them isn’t bad either. I set it up so it ends with one hour of chores earning one hour of television time.

The number two way they get more television time is by spending some of their time outside. For every hour they spend outside they get fifteen minutes of video games. Like I say this isn’t a huge payoff, but I also don’t really think asking them to be outside is a huge thing to ask. That option works the best of their long Saturdays where they spend the majority of the day outside anyway. They can play outdoors for the day on Saturday and then spend the night playing video games. Realistically a night of playing games and watching movies isn’t so bad after a full day outside.

That being said I’m ok with one or two ending up under artificial flocked christmas tree this year if it has the effect of getting my brats outside and getting some stuff done around the house for me. I hope they like their games, because I am going to like my “gift” of a little more control around the house.

One of the recent games is the Lost Winds

This game is a WiiWare title that hasn’t been much talked about before. First is a small human character which you will be able to control using the arrow pad found on the Wii Nunchuk, the other is a creature that controls the wind which in turn is controlled by you by pointing your Wii Remote.

The basic gameplay involves controlling the human character into various positions so that the wind character can assist in moving him through obstacles, using the power of the wind as a substitute to the normal jumping abilities like what other. Just by waving your remote, you will be able to hurdle past different obstacles, although, some can be more challenging and may get some getting used to be able to surpass. With practice, you will be able to go through the game with relative breeze, no pun intended.

Like most games being produced for the Nintendo Wii, the Lost Winds is very interactive and promotes fun and entertainment effectively even though it does not score high in the originality department. Great visual styles, well crafted challenges, and an overall high fun factor makes this a great game title that many gamers, young and old will surely enjoy.

A good tip is to go to some of the Wii Downloads sites to try some of these games out. Look for sites that have unlimited Wii Downloads. If you and your family love different games this will save you a fortune
